Photography as a whole is very subjective, so when it comes to editing, a style that one person may like, another may despise. The only thing that is consistent with my style of editing is the way that I retouch skin/blemishes in photos (see more below.) There are various editing styles out there and I enjoy shooting almost all of them, so if you decide to work with me and have an editing style in mind then I look forward to discussing what it will take to make it a reality.
And if you are unsure as to what kind of style of editing you like, then a good starting place for you is to view some examples of the 3 most popular editing styles that my clients like below.
High End Skin Retouching
I use a technique called dodging and burning to remove blemishes, hair, and any other distractions out of my images. This is a non-destructive method of editing, and although this technique does take more time than others, a more natural look is achieved because pixels are never blurred.
Clean and Natural Editing Style
If you like photos that look as natural as possible then this style is for you. Colors are bright and the photos look as if no edits have been made. To capture this type of style I either use natural light, my flashes, or a combination of the two. These kind of photos can be taken indoors or outdoors. Although golden hour (the last hour before sunset, or the first hour after sunrise) is generally the best time to take these, they can be taken at any time of the day.
Earthy Editing Style
If you like warmer tones then this style is for you. This type of edit prioritizes shadows, and consists of earthly brown/golden hues, and rich honeyed yellows and oranges. To capture this type of style I typically use natural light to shoot. These type of photos can be taken indoors or outdoors, and golden hour (the last hour before sunset, or the first hour after sunrise) is generally the best time to take these.
Bright & Airy Editing Style
This editing style is for those that like photos that have a cool and dreamy look. Colors are slightly desaturated, the exposure is increased, highlights are exaggerated, and shadows are not as dark. To capture this type of style I typically use natural light to shoot. Again, these type of photos can be taken indoors or outdoors, with during golden hour (the last hour before sunset, or the first hour after sunrise) being the best time to take them.
